Nira Schwartz graduated the Haifa University, Israel – creative art.
In
1976 moved with her family to Japan for four years. In Japan she met
the famous artist Yoshitoshi Mori who kindly invited her to his studio
and showed her his fascinating printing technique which he developed
out of ”Katazome' – one of the Kimono printing techniques.
Looking
for a place to study the traditional katazome technique she was
accepted to a class sponsored by Mr. Keisuke Serizawa who carried the
honorific title 'National Treasure of Japan.'
At that time Nira started to collect hand made Japanese paper.
The
discipline of Katazome together with the unique paper collection which
she had, led to developing a unique style of miniature collage.
The
miniatures, usually size around 3'x5' are drawn on Ivorine and colored
by paper, hundreds of tiny little piece, hand turn or scissors cuts, no
paint is used. Nira lives and works in Israel.
Nira is a member of the Israeli Painters and Sculptors Association
